Practical Science Series

This book contains a set of practical lessons, ideas and worksheets to explore the strand of Natural and Processed Materials. Learning activities focus on food labelling, food additives, component parts of household items, flow charts, hazardous chemicals and the properties of common materials. Students will use their knowledge of material properties to explain why materials are used for certain items. Specific science skills will be enhanced through these activities including predicting, testing, collating information, writing observations, making assessments of the properties of materials, and using this knowledge for reporting. Educational website references have been included where possible. All activities are outcome linked to the science strands of state curriculum documents.
