Don Defenderfer is a native of San Francisco who as a young man travelled to Alaska looking for wilderness. While there he met an Australian who suggested that, if it was wild places he sought, he should journey to Tasmania. He did, falling in love with Tasmania and with a local woman. That was over 30 years ago. Don Defenderfer is a world-class writer, and his articles and poems are as beautiful as the wilderness he has been exploring for three decades.
