Red Rocket makes reading easy and enjoyable by adding an extra foundation stage - Key Letter Readers. These Emergent titles introduce all the letters of the alphabet and allow students to use their letter knowledge to read text, and: use bold letter font and additional word spacing; introduce and build phonemic awareness and phonic knowledge; introduce the upper and lower case letters together; use red highlighting to emphasize focus letters and punctuation; feature exciting visual story spreads to give clues for word recognition and launch oral discussion and critical thinking.

Author description

Series editor and author of the Red Rocket reading program, Pam Holden has more than 30 years specialist experience in literacy. As a Reading Recovery teacher she has worked one-to-one with hundreds of children struggling with literacy. Pam's pupils have also included those approaching English as a second language, and children who are advanced and require extension. This experience has given the author a rare insight into the literacy process and has enabled her to identify many key elements that consistently block children's progress.
